Promotion
So, you want to be notorious?
Susan has an Honours BA from Carleton University in Anthropology. The study of men seemed advantageous at the time. Currently, Susan’s skills are all about writing, editing, and publicity. In the last couple of years, Susan’s client list has blossomed into a diverse group of small, local businesses and non-profit organizations looking for help with a new direction, an increase in sales, or promotion of a new program.
Publicity
“I am happiest when creating a press release or communiqué for a local shop/ organization. It is so rewarding to watch a community business stretch out and find its niche, and know that I was instrumental in that success.”
Susan’s work on the SWITCH 2011 Green Profit Conference and Exhibition program was excellent. In large part we made it to print on time because of her writing and editing skills, professionalism, dedication and good humour. Never underestimate the value of the latter.
Melody Tomkow
Event and Outreach Coordinator, SWITCH
Susan’s recent clients include:
- SWITCH Kingston, Green Profit conference
- Stewardship Council: Lennox & Addington
- Stewardship Council: Frontenac
- Stewardship Council: Hastings
- Ontario Woodlot Association, Limestone Chapter
- Kawartha Conservation
- Trees Ontario
- Shefa / MineralPRO Water Solutions
If it’s publicity you want, Susan’s assets include spirited writing, pinpointing your distinctive features, and sharing your message with her long list of contacts. She has built up solid relationships with the media and that translates into reliable coverage in regional news venues. She is also privy to contact lists for non-profit groups in the area. Your message can easily become the news of the hour!
“The social aspect of this business is invigorating. Getting to know my clients personally is important. It is much easier to develop a publicity campaign when I am familiar with the personality of the entrepreneur and the nuances of their business.”
Community Organizations
The Lennox & Addington Stewardship Council helps preserve our natural resources by coordinating community projects. It is very rewarding to handle their publicity and administration.
Because Susan writes such clear, concise and very effective media releases, our organisation has hired her to handle all of our public relations needs. Since we started using her services, we have seen a marked increase in attendance at all of our events.

Coordinator, Lennox & Addington Stewardship Council
The Hastings Stewardship Council also requires help with promotion. Advertising their evening Bat Presentation was exhilarating. Folks love being slightly creeped out.
Friends of the Salmon River is an energetic group dedicated to our local watershed, and Susan manages their publicity and presides as president.
The Ontario Woodlot Association presents sustainable forest events, so working with them is an exercise in natural succession.
Editing
If it is editing you require, Susan has honed her editing skills to a fine edge. She can provide different levels of editing, depending on your needs. Last summer, she edited the watershed assessment report for Lower Trent Conservation when she was in the UK, and her office was in a turret of Herstmonceux Castle. Fortunately, no pages were snapped up by crocs in the moat.
- Conservation Authorities: Ganaraska, Kawartha, Central Lake Ontario and Lower Trent
